Extent mounts Linux disks — ext2, ext3 and ext4 — on macOS, through a file system extension that runs on your Mac. Extent does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data.
Your disks and files
Everything Extent reads and writes stays between your Mac and the disk you plugged in. Files are never uploaded, copied elsewhere, or indexed by us, and Extent keeps no record of what is on a disk.
The app does remember a little about the disks themselves, so that it can tell you what it found the last time one was connected: the file system's name, UUID, size, features, and whether you turned writing on for it. That stays in Extent's own container on your Mac, and you can remove any of it from the app with Forget This Disk.
No tracking
The app contains no analytics, advertising, tracking SDKs, or user accounts. It does not build a profile of you and does not use cookies.
Network access
Extent holds no network entitlement and opens no connections. The one thing that does reach Apple is the in-app purchase that unlocks writing: that goes through the App Store, handled by macOS itself, and Extent only ever asks the system whether the purchase exists.
Diagnostics and feedback
Copy Diagnostics gathers what a support question needs — the app and system version, whether the file system extension is on, and what Extent found on each disk — and puts it on your clipboard. It is sent nowhere. Send Feedback opens a new mail in your own mail app, with that text in the body, which you can read, edit or discard before sending.
Files the app can reach
The app and its file system extension run in Apple's App Sandbox. The extension is handed the disk by macOS and can touch nothing else; the app itself can reach the disk image you pick with Open Disk Image and the place you save the sample disk to, and nothing more.
This website
The website at extent.xfanta.com uses privacy-friendly, cookieless Vercel Analytics to count aggregate page views. It does not identify individual visitors.
The App Store
Extent is distributed through the App Store. Downloads, the in-app purchase and any associated account information are handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. We never see it.
